Today, the eigth day of January, is at the start of a brand-new year. A year that should fill us with the hope for a better tomorrow. After all there are 357 days ahead!
“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering ‘it will be happier’…” – Alfred Lord Tennyson
We, who are bound together in faith in the Almighty God, the One True God, understand that tomorrow, the year ahead, the future will always be brighter. It was William Shakespeare in Henry VI, Part 2 Act 2 who said:
“God shall be my hope, my stay, my guide and lantern to my feet.”
The Covid-19 pandemic, in all likelihood, will be with us throughout 2021. Poverty, inequality, crime & violence will still be with us. However, we know that the future will be bright, and our task is to help to build that brighter future.
“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” – Desmond Tutu
We accept, we believe, we know, that Hope is that virtue that will support us though the darkest periods of our journey in the year ahead. Hope will cheer us on our road.
“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
We accept that the future lays in part with our young people and in part with our willingness to teach the good news of God’s love for us, that there is only one true God, of the unity mankind, and of religion.
“Nearness to thee is my hope.” (From the Healing Prayer)
